Well here is a watch from the late 80s early 90s and shows to its fullest all the features they were putting in digital watches at the time. This one boasts all the usual features like, stopwatch, light, alarm and so on but this also had a new feature, a phone dialler!

With this watch you can store a multitude of phone numbers in its memory and then use the dial feature and it would dial the number using a digital sound from the speaker. You would hold the watch to a telephone receiver and the telephone would here the tones and dial the number. This technology was called DTMF (Dial Tone Multi Frequency ) How cool is that!

Of course this watch came to be broken along with another Casio calculator. They have sat in my cupboard until 2023 where I decided to make a video repair on these for the channel. If you are interested then please watch it now.

If you have not watched the video then here is a bit of a spoiler alert. I was unable to get the phone dailer function to work as the speaker was damaged from a battery leakage.

As with all my watch projects I never give up. I spent some time on eBay hunting a donor and setup some saved searches to do the work for me. Eventually another was listed in very rough condition but was fully working. I won the auction for £5! clearly there is no interest in models like this.

So to complete the circle I made another quick video to turn the two watches into one and have a fully working watch.

But will the phone dialer work in today’s world? watch to find out!

To finish this blog, here are some photos of the completed watch. Thanks for reading!

This watch also features on my Vintage Digital Watch Collection video from April 2024
