Here is another early Casio watch from around mid to late 70s. Casiotron were the first Casio watches ever made which for me at least makes them a little more special. The first of anything is always worth trying to collect.
As with many of my other Casiotron this one is built really well. Thick rugged stainless steel case with contrasting brushed and mirror finishing.

However like most of my watches they never start out like this. I was given this one by a watch friend of mine Adrian from Vintage Time Australia. Adrian is very well known out in the hobbyist scene and knows his Seiko’s like no one else I know. We communicate occasionally and he knows I am always on the hunt for these things. He had one come into his possession and asked if I would like it for a small donation to Prostate Cancer UK the charity I heavily support after my own recent dance with the disease.

Watch was untested but on arrival I found that a new battery installed the watch would fire up. However one of the pushers was not held in place and had seen better days. Also as I dismantled the watch the glass fell out.

Fortunately I had a donor model of this so was able to swap over the pushers easily as they are held in place with “E” clips.

Pushers were an easy fix and as the glass was out gave me a chance to clean the case thoroughly before gluing the glass back in place.

For that job I just use GS Cement which is a glue most watchmakers use for this purpose. It has a very fine applicator which makes flowing a bead into the aperture very easy. Once dried excess can be wiped away with IPA alcohol.

Here is the finished watch. Another survivor from the beginning of digital watches. Has a lovely solid stainless steel bracelet. I think they made them as well as they did because back then these were probably quite high end “new tech” which would come as a premium.

How things would change only a decade later with mass produced digital watches like the F91W !

This watch also features on my Vintage Digital Watch Collection video from April 2024
