Here is the last of my Elnix models and arguably the best although that would be subjective as its all about a persons taste in design. I like the more colourful and interesting case shapes and this one is no exception to that. This model is from 1974 and as I type this blog post its just turned 50 years old!
At first appearance it looks like the dial is striped but this is an illusion. The crystal is acrylic and has vertical facets on the inside. You do not see this often as they are normally glass and on the outside and after 40+ years usually in a really bad state. The advantage of acrylic is you can polish scratches out in minutes keeping nice and fresh.
The dial has horizontal brushing which also plays with the light making this watch different to look at in every angle.
As discussed in my other Elnix posts these watches are a hybrid movement comprising of mainly mechanical parts within the movement but instead of a mainspring its powered by a battery. There is no quartz crystal just a transistor and a coil. This powers the train of wheels backwards. The balance wings and moves a rather unusual pallet fork which in turn moves the escape wheel and that motion is transferred right through the train to the hands.
