Well here it is my first double register column wheel chronograph watch. I was contacted by AliExpress marketing team and asked if I would like to review a watch for them. I had around 30 to choose from but for me there was only one that I really liked, mainly because its original in its design.
The Sea-Gull 1963 is a reissue of a watch that was made for the Peoples Republic Army Airforce. They wanted a chronograph watch for their pilots and had not developed their own movement. At the same time Venus a Swiss brand was selling off all the tooling and plans for their 175 column wheel chronograph movement that they had being using successfully using but wanted to develop a new movement so needed the revenue.
So the design is original, the movement is an upgraded (By Jewels) column wheel chronograph that has authentic Swiss origins. All for a little over £100! That is a bargain in anyone’s book. You can even justify buying one of these to learn how to service a chronograph movement!
I have opted for the 38mm case as its true to the original. You can also get it in 40mm if you prefer the larger size. I also opted for sapphire crystal but again this is still available on the acrylic if you prefer.
All in all a bargain watch that has vintage looks and a display caseback that will keep you staring at that movement for hours!
