This is one very unusual watch that I like to call an object of design that also tells the time. Its a big watch at 46mm diameter that has an accurately calved map of the southern hemisphere, I am lead to believe the topography is to scale too. Very impressive.
This watch was sent to me by Ciga Design for a review. I love the unusual and bazaar so jumped at the chance to look at this one in detail.
It had actually won the challenge award at the GPHD awards in 2021 . These are like the watch Oscars so this is a big achievement especially for a Chinese watch brand.
I see this watch as an exhibition piece. A “look what we can do” from Ciga to the world. If they put this much effort into their designs then I am interested to see what they will have coming in the future.
This has a modified ETA2821 clone movement inside with 30 jewels. It has a special gear ratio on the minute wheel. This is because the minute wheel is a whole track that spins 390degrees each hour to line up with the hour markings. It is a problem Ciga caused themselves but I cant help but like seeing watches that have been modified in some way to overcome a technical problem.
