So here is a jump hour watch that I have been after for years. 3-4 years ago I was really into collecting jump hour watches and this Saytoko model I missed out on in a bidding war on eBay.
If you are into watches and shop on eBay you will know that feeling when you lose out. Its horrible..
I vowed to find another of these watches and set a saved search in my eBay account in the hope another would turn up.
fast forward 3-4 years and finally another one! yes, that’s right, it took that long! clearly quite a rare watch.
I set about putting a bid on that I knew would win the auction. Luckily for me there was no real competition on this one and I was able to win it for £30.00. I think this was because the sellers photos were not brilliant and the watch was on a bund strap.
I waited a week and when the watch arrived I was very pleased. The case was made from stainless steel and this is unusual for a jump hour as typically they are plated and in rather rough condition. At first glance this one looked in mint condition but on closer inspection a previous owner had attempted a case re-finish. They had done it quite well however not up to my standard.
This will be a job for me in the future as I have a lot of projects still to finish. I had been curious as to the movement inside. Given the case is good quality perhaps the movement will be….??
How wrong was I? your typical BFG88 1 jewel pin pallet movement. You see these a lot in jump hour watches.
No matter its the aesthetics that attract me to this watch. That being said I have had to change the balance on this one from a donor to make it run right.
I needed to find a suitable bracelet for the watch and searching on eBay I found what was advertised as a vintage watch bracelet but when it arrived its brand new and a bit “tinny” however it does have the look I wanted to achieve so I cant really complain.
So here it is the finished watch to complete my Jump Hour collection. Proof that good things come to those that wait.
