What a crazy watch this one is! I always have my eye out for jump hour watches and in particular unusual or rare ones. This Sicura falls into both of those categories.

I was at the Birmingham Clock and Watch fair UK back in September 2022. It was near the end of the fair and I had not bought anything after not really seeing anything that interested me. Then this Sicura caught my eye. I knew it instantly so asked the stall holder to show it me. A deal was struck for £50.00 which for me was on the high side for a non running unusual watch like this but equally I knew a good working one seems to go for 3x that amount.

As you can see it looks rough. I already knew what this watch is, its a mechanical movement to control the time and then an electric circuit to power a light! As it turns out after researching this is the first or one of the first mechanical watches ever to feature a light. Nice claim to fame and thus worthy of being saved for horology’s sake … 🙂

What is quite apparent is that the batteries have leaked and considerably by the looks of things.

I remove the battery hatches to find this!

Those batteries have been in there for a very long time indeed! possibly alkaline ones? who knows.

I now have my work cut out to see if this thing is salvageable. At this point I decide to get the camera out and film the repair of this one!

As you can see the leakage has got onto the dial. Now if you want to see how bad this watch was and how I repaired it then please watch my video. Click below!

Hope you enjoyed that repair!

So here are some photos of the finished watch to enjoy.
