This is another classic 70s Seiko that has an amazing dial and the original faceted crystal which are really rare to find nowadays. This watch is a 6106-7570 and dated March 1973.

This one came to me from another Seiko collector who traded this for some service work. I had actually worked on his exact model and commented how nice it was. Little did I know he had two of them!

Everything is original from the crystal to the bracelet which is remarkable given its now 50 years old.

The watch will need a service but it was running well on the timegrapher enough for me to not have to hurry to keep it running.

As with any vintage watch, when I first get them if they are on a bracelet I will clean it all with a toothbrush and then also in the ultrasonic. If there are adjustable links I also strip all of those out too as they really do collect crap and DNA over the years.

This one was no exception, it was actually incredibly filthy as you can see here on the photos below.

Now its all stripped down the cleaning begins, I will put on 40C in the ultrasonic for 30 minutes and then afterwards into dish soap with a toothbrush, and then back into the ultrasonic for another 15 minutes. This tends to work well for the really dirty watches.

What is left is the watch movement and that absolutely stunning dial plus the crystal.

what is interesting with these is that the crystal is actually glued in place on a ring. With my friends watch he had found a new old stock crystal which came complete with the ring attached. With my watch the crystal came away from the ring with minimal effort so I had no choice but to glue it back in place.

I do not have any photos of this as once the glue is applied you do not have much time to get it all positioned. I use G-S Cement for the job. Works wonders. Just run a bead around the ring and then sit the crystal firmly in place. Once set you can then go back and with alcohol wipe away the dried excess.

The glue is what the pro’s use so I have no reason to doubt its sticking capability.

Now the watch is all back together and just look at how nice this one looks. A proper retro Seiko for sure!!
