This watch holds so many memories for me. My mother bought it me on a trip to New York. She had found the dial funny and thought I might like it. I can’t really remember when, late 90s or early 2000s
I wore this watch for years and used to show it to people all the time for the fun factor with that dial and now there is a disc that ticks two flies around the dial!
I stopped wearing it possibly in my late 20s when it stopped working for reasons unknown.
Fortunately I kept this watch in a drawer for well over 20 years until this year 2022 when I found it again and decided to find out what was wrong with it.
It is just fitted with a Miyota quartz movement which on research I found I could still buy a version if it. However me being me I had to repair rather than replace.
Under the microscope I found the coil was damaged and probably by my younger self when I used to do my own crude battery changes. I had most likely damaged it when removing the press fit caseback.
I located the multiple breaks in the coil and painted conductive paint over the effected areas and left to dry. A day later with a battery installed the watch ticked again!
Then fitted a new crystal to give it a fresh lease of life. Still on a very old strap but I will keep it that way for the sheer memories it holds.
