Well here we are with another San Martin watch. This time though its not sent to be by San Martin for review! This was actually a gift from another YouTuber friend of mine who gave it to me back in 2022 to cheer me up during my cancer treatment.
what makes this watch quite special is most people will have no idea this is a homage watch because it will not look familiar to them. However to those in the know….!
This watch is paying homage to an iconic Seiko from the 70s called the Seiko Superior.
Back then the Superior line was above Grand Seiko which is quite a statement. The original Superior was a quartz watch but oh no not any quartz watch but one that had accuracy to seconds per year! It had dual quartz crystals thermally compensating the movement to retain as much accuracy as possible.
All this at the beginning of the quartz watch industry too. Seiko have always been known for pushing the boundaries this model was no exception.
Today’s Grand Seiko Quartz are packed with this technology. Promoting accuracy of the watch but little do the public know that the technology is nearly 50 years old now!
The fact that San Martin would homage this watch is fascinating but I am curious why too as it would not sell like a more well known brand homage would.
What I also find funny is that San Martin have used an automatic movement from Sea-Gull. I know why as its an affordable movement that will show the day and the date but its still laughable that an automatic would homage a quartz watch as its normally the other way around!
I have had this watch next to a genuine Seiko Superior and its a pretty much 1 for 1 copy of the original in every design aspect.
