This one is another one sent in from AliExpress for a review on the channel. I was very keen to see this one as it looks very retro vintage inspired and as San Martin offer very good quality finishing for the price this one certainly spiked my interest.
Okay this one is a homage of a 1950s Rolex of the type Sean Connery wore in the James Bond films. As that Rolex is rare and unaffordable for many I consider a homage to this watch acceptable.
The watch is also an ideal size of 38mm which for me is the sweet spot for a sports watch. I had to get female end links that you order separately but it makes the watch wear much nicer in my opinion to the male end links you can see in the photo below.
The finishing to the steel is excellent and you can see this nice uniform brushing and the polished chamfer on the edge of the case. Bracelet echoes the rivet style bracelet but on these they are held in by screws that you have to remove to size the bracelet. This is not the easiest procedure and if you are not used to using two screwdrivers at the same time things can go wrong very quickly by slipping and scratching the high polished sides to the links. I recommend masking these areas off before doing it to prevent damage.
This is my only real criticism to this watch. it is well made, dial finishing is lovely. Metal finishing is sublime for the £180 ish this is being sold for. It is powered by the trusty and reliable Seiko NH35 automatic movement that has hand winding and hacking as standard.
